The music for the track, Xmas (AGAIN?!), was originally written back in 2016 by local musician Rob Allen (RoBoTaLiEn), who was hoping to release it as a Christmas single but unfortunately found himself with writer’s block. It was left unfinished until this year when Rob became a trainee music facilitator with the group – and asked them to help him come up with the lyrics. The writing process involved drawing upon words and images of the most festive things they could imagine and, in nothing short of a Christmas miracle, they had a full song’s worth of lyrics and vocal melodies within an hour and a half!

All the participants of the programme sang and played something on the track, which was another huge achievement and made it a truly collaborative effort.
The group meets weekly and are led by professional musician Holly Phelps who supports and inspire participants through music and songwriting. The group has continued to meet online and thrive musically over the past 6 months, despite challenges for both is and the young people due to the pandemic. The project is gratefully supported by BBC Children in Need and Youth Music.
