An exhibition of images by participants of Arc’s Photography for Wellbeing Walks in Stockport.

Saturday January 27th – Saturday February 24th 2024

Photography is about capturing a snippet of time and space. Whether we use an old box brownie, a disposable film camera, a digital camera or mobile phone – the principle of capturing a unique moment doesn’t change.

Throughout the year and in all seasons, Arc runs a programme of ‘Photography for Wellbeing Walks‘ led by local artists, most recently with Rae Story.

The artists usually use ‘photographic prompts’ or a ‘brief’ to guide the walk such as Looking for Letters, Abstract, Framing the Ordinary, Macro or Perspective Shift, which focuses attention rather than just taking random snapshots (though that in itself is sometimes a lovely thing to do)!

“Photography is a fantastic way to slow down, take a pause from our busy lives, and connect to where we are and to really notice what is in front of us – right now! To notice things that exist only in this moment, or that we’ve never seen before. In these ways it is a practice that supports mindfulness, wellbeing and refreshes us.”

In addition, photographing and connecting with our local area takes us out into the environment so that we are moving, walking and breathing fresh air, in natural light. As a group we are also sharing the experience and connecting with others.

Join us for the exhibition launch + Saturday Art Club at Arc at Hat Works on Saturday January 27th and the closing Saturday February 24th from 11:00-15:00. These events will include creative activities for ages 3+.

Between those dates the exhibition is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00-16:00 in line with Hat Works Cafe opening hours.
