To mark Volunteers Week this year Arc has invited past and present volunteers to share their stories and submit artwork for an exhibition celebrating the invaluable contribution volunteers have made to the organisation.
Volunteers have had a huge impact on Arc’s development for over 20 years. We have seen people grow as artists, facilitators, support workers, administrators and more. Arc has welcomed volunteers who want to learn new skills, improve their employment prospects or simply be creative whilst helping others. Many of our volunteers have come from within our own programmes – and for some it has been a huge journey from vulnerability to increased confidence and opportunity.
Arc volunteers utilised, developed and continued their own arts practices. This exhibition highlights some of the stories of those who have grown with us, presented with some of their artwork in our Gallery. We hope it emphasises that without the time, dedication and commitment of these people, Arc would simply not exist in its current form today. They are our greatest resource – and we celebrate them!

It made me realise how rewarding working within mental health could be and it also offered a framework within which new opportunities could be explored, safely. Join us to find discover the variety of people’s reasons for volunteering, if it had any positive impact on their lives and what past volunteers are doing now. All welcome for the launch on April 28th 11:00-15:30 for our Saturday Art Club. Exhibition continues weekdays 10:00-16:00 and the last Saturday of May 11:00-15:30.
Come and find out about volunteering during Volunteers Week. Pop in any time between 11:00 and 13:00 on Friday June 1st, Monday June 4th – Thursday 7th and have a coffee, look at the exhibition and talk to staff who will be on hand with information on volunteering at Arc for anyone who’s interested.
‘Working with Volunteers’ Event – sharing best practice. An event for people working with volunteers in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector. Arc is working with partners The Seashell Trust and Life Leisure to deliver this event on Tues 5th June 11:00–12.30. places bookable on Eventbrite soon.
